Something stirred and she could see
Perhaps this little stranger

Her heart began to soften

With great anticipation
Came that Sunday afternoon
When family came a bearing gifts
It was none too soon

The shoe box kind of wiggled
He was cute enough to hug
Then he promptly strolled across the floor
And piddled on the rug

And she thought

The days and weeks passed quickly
As winter followed fall

This curious companion
This personality
Begged his way into our hearts

That there in quiet moments
With no one else around
He'd curl up beside her

She would softly stroke him
And then he'd wanna play
Looking in those big brown eyes
I thought I heard her say

They'll never take my friend away
